On Thursday, 3rd November, Helena Langšádlová, Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, visited the Liberec region.
The last stop on her schedule was the Turnov site of the Institute of Plasma Physics (IPP) of the CAS—TOPTEC Centre, which has long been successfully conducting research into special optics. Radomír Pánek, Director of the IPP, outlined the primary activities of the Institute, including the COMPASS-U project. Vít Lédl, Managing Director of the TOPTEC Section, then presented the Centre’s focus and main results in the field of applied research, including intensive cooperation with industry and the European Space Agency (ESA). „The vision we have been fulfilling step by step at ESA is to become a supplier of complete sophisticated instruments with the highest added value. In addition to that, we are also trying to open the door to the space industry to top Czech companies,” said Vít Lédl at the end of the visit. Minister Lanšádlová appreciated especially the extent of cooperation with industrial subjects, the number of commercialised licences, as well as the volume of contract research at the Centre.
